In the next few months we'll be in the market for at least 1 new greyhound, which leads to the prospect of a trip to the Irish auctions. Thurles are holding auctions on Tue Oct 4 Tue Nov 1 Sat Dec 10 While Curraheen Park, Cork has one on Tue Nov 15 Tying the trip in with a day at the horses or a night at the dogs isn't essential, but given the chance, why wouldn't you?? To give a rough idea of cost I've put together one potential itinery: Flight from Cardiff (11.35) to Dublin Fri Dec 9 £70 return Train from Dublin Heuston (2.00) to Thurles 23euros (£20) 2 nights accomodation at the Horse & Jockey Hotel Thurles 49.50euros (£43) pp pn twin room w/breakfast Train from Thurles (9.20) to Sallins (Punchestown) via Kildare Sun Dec 11 approx £15 Entry to Punchestown John Durkan Memorial Chase 18euros (£16) Train from Sallins (8.13) to Dublin Heuston approx £6 1 nights accomodation at Kildare St Hotel, Dublin 22.50euros (£19.50) pp pn twin room w/breakfast Flight from Dublin to Cardiff Mon Dec 12 (10.00) Approx total cost £232.50 (puppy not included) Additional info: Shelbourne Park greyhounds run Wed, Thur & Sat. Harolds Cross run Mon, Tue & Fri. Curraheen Park run Thur, Fri & Sat.

Interesting Jase. My student grant should be well and truly sorted out by then so I'd be well up for it myself. Not sure quite what's in Thurles to amuse us for 1.5 days but even so the trip sounds good.

With our new recruit The Lone Razor in the kennel, there may not be a need to visit the Irish auctions, but that's no reason not to go ahead with a trip to Shelbourne Park / Punchestown. If there's interest in this little weekender in December (10th/11th), I'll look into a revised itinery & make the necessary bookings.

Certainly worth looking into it mate. We could still make up a little story about a new purchase to justify our little jolly!!!

This trip still very much on the cards, but now looking more like April next year. Any time in the fortnight beginning Apr 23rd would suit me fine.

Looking at the dates of the upcoming Irish auctions, Curraheen Park on May 1st looks a good possibility for our trip overseas. With that in mind, I've exhaustively researched (cobbled together) this itinery for a 2 night stay in Cork: Train from Cardiff Central to Bristol Temple Meads Apr 30 dep 12.30 arr 1.18. Shuttle buses run to the airport every 10 minutes taking approx 25 mins. Arrive Bristol airport 1.57, allowing over an hour before check in time (£28 return train fare). Flight from Bristol to Cork dep 5.10 arr 6.30 (£96 return fare). 20 min taxi ride to Gabriel House guesthouse overlooking harbour. 2 nights accomodation w/breakfast approx 31 euros (£26) per person per night for double or twin room. Gabriel House also a 20 min taxi ride to Curraheen Park. Flight from Cork to Bristol May 2 dep 3.25 arr 4.45 Shuttle bus 5.30 to Temple Meads. Train 6.21 arriving in Cardiff 7.24. Approx total cost incl. taxi fares £200 (anyone with a rail priv card can enjoy favourable discounts )
